Buret:

A buret is a long glass tube with volume measurements marked along the side for measuring the amount of liquid added to a solution. It is frequently used in titrations.

The diagram of the buret shows a buret mounted in a buret stand so it can be used without being held. It has one open end and one end fitted with a valve or stop cock for controlling the rate of flow.

When using the buret, it should be filled above zero, and then drained to the zero mark to clear any air bubbles in the tip of the buret which may cause erroneous measurements.

It is important to read the volume measurements consistently and correctly.

The volume is read from the bottom of the meniscus. The meniscus is the curved surface of the fluid. It must also be read at eye level, rather than from above or below in order to determine what the correct volume measurement is.
